How it all began

The IOC wanted to remove wrestling from the Olympic program in 2013. Toni Marchl, Vice President of the ÖRSV, persuaded Karl Reyer former European Championship participant of AC Wals to ask Franz Beckenbauer for support.

Franz Beckenbauer accepted the challenge and met several times with IOC President Thomas Bach. The Austrian Wrestling Federation and the German Wrestling Federation supported this action of Franz Beckenbauer.

Ultimately, the match was won and Franz Beckenbauer was awarded honorary membership of the Austrian Wrestling Federation and the German Wrestling Federation at a gala in Schloss Klessheim in Wals-Siezenheim in 2013. The newly elected UWW President Nenad Lalovic presented him with the golden chain of the World Wrestling Federation. Since 2013, wrestling has a good status in the IOC and the World Wrestling Federation. Nenad Lalovic was also surprisingly accepted into the IOC and has been a member of the Executive Board of the IOC since 2018.

In 2016, the House of Wrestling of the Business Club of the World Wrestling Federation could be carried out together for the first time at the Olympic Games in Rio. The Beach Wrestling World Series is managed with Austrian support by Erich Wagner. Since 2013, many contacts and friendships have been made with the World Wrestling Federation. Unfortunately, the 2021 U-23 European Championship in the Sportgemeinde Wals-Siezenheim had to be cancelled due to the Covid pandemic. delete

When in 2021 the sports community Wals-Siezenheim under the leadership of Bgm. Joachim Maislinger decided to expand the wrestling center, the way was clear for the installation of a federal performance center for the sport of wrestling where the status was decided in June 2022 by the Austrian Ministry of Sport under the leadership of Philipp Trattner delete.

The appointment as the 6th World Federation Center for the over 180 nations active in wrestling and the 1st World Federation Center for an Olympic sport in Austria was made in May 2023 by UWW President Nenad Lalovic.
